Arguing against the motion, ‘Politics excludes young people; therefore young people are apathetic and unlikely to vote.’
On the fifth of May, I, like so many other young people who had just turned 18, eagerly wandered down to my local polling booth, excited to be voting for the first time. I already knew all the candidates, already knew who to vote for. And the AV referendum is something I had been... Read more

I am coming to the end of the vtalent year programme with Doncaster Youth Service, and have found it to be an amazing experience, giving me so much. Whilst helping the local Youth Service, I've met a great bunch of people, both on the programme themselves, and other workers. It's just a great shame that the project is coming to an end after a 2-year run, not to be repeated for the foreseeable future... Read more

over 2 years agoHi, I am on the V Talent Year with the British Youth Council and it’s a blast! I could not describe the opportunities that this work experience has given me! It is a real shame that other young people aren't going to get this in the future as it’s really helping me build a career and given me time to think about my own personal development! This type of scheme is what the government should be investing... Read more

over 2 years agoHi Simon and Myriam - it's great to hear that you've enjoyed your v talent year experience. This full-time volunteering project has helped young people achieve some great results - with 74% of participants progressing into further education, training or employment and 94% getting a level 2 qualification. v would love to be able to continue the v talent year programme - but unfortunately there are... I am making a documentary to highlight how the cuts to Youth Services are affecting young people and showing that the loss of them mean that young people are losing a valuable source of inspiration. I am hoping this documentary can be used to show how important these services are to young people and hopefully make a change. The inspiration these services provide us young people, help us to realise... Read more

Hi Guys,
MASSIVE opportunity to have your say here! I'll be working with Minister for Education Tim Loughton on creating a NEW youth policy for young people on monday and need some serious input from you guys on the three questions below:
The minister will be keen to know what young people think:
- is needed to help them reach their FULL potential
- Which services they feel are MOST important... Read more

over 2 years agoMore youth centers which provide enrichment activites, and things for young people to do. Learning skills such as first aid, sign lanuage, office skills, mechanical skills, things which are going to be beneficial for the future. An environment which promotes education and allow young people to receive recognition through qualifications and certificates. This would encourage and allow more young... Read more

over 2 years agoSurestart is the area that needs the most protection. I know you want us to talk more 16-25 blah blah blah but the most important years of anyones life is 0-4.
If a child is hooked on learning and discovering inspiration in the early years, they can carry that through for the rest of their life.

over 2 years agoHI guys thanks for your replies.
James, I see your point about 0-4 year olds, but I cannot help but wonder that the set up of the system does in some sense stifle the natural will to learn and explore once a child enters the schooling system and that is based on my experience working in schools.
Personally, while 0-4 may introduce a child to the joys of exploration once they get into secondary... Read more

about 2 years agoI'm organising a volunteer-led youth project with a tiny budget at the moment. We are working with the Supreme Court and so far the project has been wonderful (http://bigvoicelondon.wordpress.com/). However it is good for both the volunteers and youth people's personal development and professional development. Without those benefits to everyone taking part I don't see why most people would do it.
if the big society is such a good idea, surely it would be hypocritical of Cameron to accept such a high salary for a job he is delegating to the rest of society?
perhaps david Cameron should donate his salary and volunteer to do his own job
lead by example....just a thought.

over 2 years agoHi Jamie - thanks for your video post. It's pretty shocking that Birmingham Youth Service will undergo 70% cuts...and interesting to hear what local people think about the way the government is tackling the deficit.
The people you interviewed also seem to feel that the government is not listening to their concerns about the cuts, and that politicians are only interested in listening to people... Read more

almost 2 years agocould not agree more Vicky!
Hey everyone!
Bit of a taboo subject here, but it's something that deserves to be talked about, i think.
Youth services to start with - locally a lot of parks are being dug up to make new houses and also a new waterfront, now young people hang around the city centers with no where to go and they get in trouble for hanging about! We need more parks and "cool" youth places to hang out so we don... Read more

about 2 years agoHi Rachel,
Thanks so much for your post. There's definitely a lot of anxiety about cuts to youth services across the country - and also about how far the government is actually listening to young people. This website is one way for young people to be heard - and here at v, we're hoping to collate some of the most common views and concerns of young people, alongside some of the best ideas and suggestions... The UK Youth Parliament's Yorkshire & Humberside region are currently campaigning on the isssue of Young Carers. There's currently a bill going through Parliament to try and make it complusory for all young carers to get some support in some shape or form.
We are also working on an acreditation scheme to introduce into schools to identify young carers, along with other initiatives.

There's a lot happening here to do with Young Carers too, I'm going to Glasgow tomorrow to talk to the MSP for Policy making as Young Carers are soon to be written into the Scottish manifesto's.
Personally I feel Young Carers have to be identified at a young age so that they can benefit from services. Teachers need to be better trained in how to handle young carers... Read more
Got a question for David Cameron? Well, here's your chance to ask it.
YouTube's World View programme, in partnership with Al Jazeera, is inviting people to submit questions to Mr Cameron about domestic AND foreign policy.

By making the Big Society his personal ‘mission’ David Cameron appears to be staking his reputation as Prime Minister on a project that many believe is doomed to fail.
This is a project which Cameron was under no obligation to assume such individual responsibility for and one which – given time and the right amount of spin – could have been made to fade into the background long before it became... Read more

I agree the political system in the UK does say that young people aren't interest in politics when they blatantly are interested and engaged!

Hi Peter - any chance you can email araba.webber@vinspired.com? We need to update you on the meeting with Andrew Stunnell. Thanks.

It could be that politics uses young people in tokenistic way like kissing babys!
