Hi All

Hope you're all well.

Been a while since I posted.

Just wanted to let you all know we're still fighting hard for young people. We've been speaking to the local council, our MPs and have even manage to speak to Nick Hurd under our local MPs behalf. We're moving forward in every way possible.

We are in a very strong position at the moment. As you're well aware, the riots saw young... Read more

Over the last few months I’ve watched with interest the growing participation in Big Society’s Big Mouth but more importantly, the emerging themes and concerns of participants. The contributions have been magnificent, thought provoking and challenging. I hope to comment on some of the dominant issues as the project comes to its natural end. The first topic I want to reflect on is the high level... Read more

Yes it is hard when you get stuck in that loop - it happened to me. I wanted to do media but that is SO about who you know, even to get work experience, and I didn't know anyone. In the end I did some volunteering with a youth magazine and ended up getting a job. So maybe volunteering helps to iron out some of the unfairness that seems to go with work experience and placements?

    Hi

Would just like to update this, after asking the question to some young people, here are some answers I've received.

    What I asked.

"Quick question for you. We hear employers are really concerned for those young people who appear not to be ready for or interested in work.

They say young people are rejecting work.

Is this true? Any of you looking for job and want/interested to work? "

I'm reading back through some old topics. Is that a real question or one to cause debate? Most people don't exactly choose to have no job or education, it just gets forced onto them whether they like it or not.

I agree with Kathy Marshall being a NEET or unemployed is not a choice, you are unemployed/NEET because you have no choice!

My project is to becoming the ARK Angel, (Acts of Random Kindness), for your community, and go around your town commiting simple, happy acts, from giving up your seat on the bus to leaving 20p's in phonebooths, to quote the ad, every little helps, and it can really brighten a person's day.

@Joe, I think you largely misunderstand the banking system. Banks don't just key in an increase to their own bank account. They just lend out more money than they have creating more money upon repayment of the debt.

You may think this is wrong, but it is vital for a strong growing economy and without it banks would just be safes. Places to store your money. There would be no loans. The only people... Read more

    Hey vbigmouth!

The government has cut funding to hundreds of youth organisations across the country forcing a majority of them to close down.

**How can the Big Society exist without young people?**

I work and volunteer for a youth organisation in Wolverhampton called Kids in Communication (www.kicfm.com) that has had its funding cut because of government reductions. We engaged over 5000 young... Read more

    Hi Andrew

My names Kenny, and I'm involved with Kids In Communication, a young persons radio station and a support network for young people.

Funded by VInspired for the last 3 years, our project, along with hundreds up and down the country was cut on the 31st March. We were solely funded by V, and as of this date, we were forced to close our doors to young people.

Over 13 years, we have trained... Read more

How can the government expect young people to work towards the big society when 1) they are cutting funding here and there to the voluntary sector and schemes which support it (like the Youth Opportunities Fund) and 2) are doing seemingly nothing to tackle young people's 20% unemployment rate? Young people can't volunteer if they can't afford to live.

The Big Society concept is based upon volunteering - everybody doing their bit. But does the government recognise that volunteering doesn't just happen by osmosis?

Volunteers dont just come forward or suddenly materialise as if by magic! Volunteering needs a funded infrastructure behind it to develop and support volunteer management.

What is this government doing to ensure that volunteer infrastructure... Read more

I have been thinking lately, having seen the views raised on huge forums where people are complaining about the big society, complaining about the politicians saying they are rubbish. And generally slagging them of for what they do for our country!!! I love juxtaposing this image with the international problems faced in Libya, Egypt where people are fighting their rights which we basically take... Read more

    Hi Karim

For me, and certainly a lot of people I come across, it's a trust issue. Politicians saying they're going to do one thing, get elected, and not doing it.

You feel betrayed, this is why, for me, I have very little confidence in the Government.

I used to have a lot of confience towards the Government, and have supported a lot of ideas, however, currently, I feel let down.

I agree with you on this issue, I am a young person and will be affected by the university fees decisions. I think we have to put this debate in context. Firstly, what you were saying about restricting young people's futures, don't you think what the gov't is doing is better?! University is as excessively opening up to the world as much as our immigration policies. University should have students... Read more

So.........David Cameron has announced a £200m boost for his Big Society drive.

Are you as confused as I am? Usually, hearing news of a £200m injection for a better society would excite me, however, this doesn't make any sense.

Billions of pounds are being cut up and down the country, only to be refuelled by his £200m Big Society?

Does Mr Cameron not realise that once a voluntary/charitable... Read more

What Mr Cameron has failed to notice is that the young people are the next generation, and unles he focuses attention onto these vital people, when the current generation come to the point where they hand over their duties to the younger people, their roles will not be forfilled correctly because the government hasn't given them the opportunity to learn key skill and gain invaulable experience... Read more
