Big Societys Big Mouth – Social Action Training day. The training day was aimed at young people in Knowsley aged 16-25 who want to make a difference in their local community.

The aim of the training was to equip local young people with the following;

• Project management skills
• Creative thinking and problem solving
• Volunteer recruitment
• Managing and delivering our own projects

There were 5young people taking part, along with the two young volunteers from Knowsley who were helping to deliver the training as community activists.

We ran through step by step how to plan, organise and then partake in our own event / community project. The training covered how to manage a project, including everything from identifying objectives, to creating a project timescale and recruiting volunteers to the project.

Experiences gained through volunteering will offer so much to young people’s development, but any extra training is always a bonus.

Andrew Buchanan (participant) said:

‘Thank you for the Social Action training opportunity last Saturday. I learnt a lot and had fun. I’ve just got a new job working in a project management role, devising physical activity schemes for the local health centre and members of the local community. Now I'll be able to put what I learnt on the training course to really good use!’

The social action day which took place in Knowsley was a success which involved training two community activists in Project Management, facilitation and presentation skills, as well as equipping 5 young people in the skills needed for project management, ready to deliver their own social action projects in their area.
