Everyone on politics
On June 30 nearly a million workers could be on strike together, from the PCS, UCU, NUT and ATL unions. This includes teachers and education workers in schools, colleges and universities.
Workers are striking to stop changes to their pension schemes. Bosses and the government want workers to pay more and receive less. Some workers could lose tens of thousands of pounds that they have already paid... Read more

Today, Michael Gove described trade unionism as militancy and suggested that the government is considering bringing in new laws to curtail the unions’ power. Like a phoenix from the ashes, Thatcher rises again to scorch this land anew. At least this time the lady is a bit more tempted by “that favourite media catchphrase, the U-turn”.
I’ve always been concerned about the Thatcherite nature of the... Read more

It is noticeable that whenever we have the conservatives in power; there are strikes, as the conservatives steam roller there policys over the public sector becuase they strike! The torys win on both fronts as they get stronger union laws and their policys in one because they make the unions strike!
I was wondering what anyone thinks about the current Governments attitude to those with specific learning difficulties e.g dyslexia ?
I have heard that they are going scrape school action and school action plus form the statementing system and only have one assessment which will become statement as the current government don't like the fact that 20% of all school children have special educational... Read more

Because it gives our civilization some kind of order. I'm not saying that it couldn't be distributed more fairly because it definitely could, but it gives people who do jobs that don't have a physical reward in themselves (such as a doctor) pay for their work. There, you have a reply :)
Being inspired by Onyere's blog I decided to write my own about the 21st Century Activist event organised by the Big Society's Big Mouth and the Parliamentary Outreach on the 23rd May.
So, it was a really early start for me that morning, having to wake up at around 4.30am (although I must admit I snoozed my alarm at least 3 times and got up at 5.00) to catch a train at 6.30am from Newcastle to... Read more

Many young people can't imagine a society we their sexual behaviour isn't demonised, judged or ignored. These negative attitudes are holding young people back, seriously affecting their health and wellbeing and preventing them from making informed choices. Sex:Positive is taking a stand and challenging society's negative attitudes about sex.

Arguing against the motion, ‘Politics excludes young people; therefore young people are apathetic and unlikely to vote.’
On the fifth of May, I, like so many other young people who had just turned 18, eagerly wandered down to my local polling booth, excited to be voting for the first time. I already knew all the candidates, already knew who to vote for. And the AV referendum is something I had been... Read more

I agree the political system in the UK does say that young people aren't interest in politics when they blatantly are interested and engaged!

Hi Peter - any chance you can email araba.webber@vinspired.com? We need to update you on the meeting with Andrew Stunnell. Thanks.

It could be that politics uses young people in tokenistic way like kissing babys!
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if people feel that party politics e.g being a member of Labour, Conservative, Green or Lib-dems and other parties is as important as fighting for issue based politics e.g climate change , freedom for the middle east, youth empowerment and votes at 16 and other issues !
If this is so what does this mean for British Democracy as a whole?
