I guess maybe voluntary organisations don't get that many opportunities to talk to ministers, so when they do see them, they want to talk about the biggest thing on their minds? I mean, I imagine it's quite hard to think about anything else when the organisation you really care about is going bust and you're preparing to join the dole queue...

I'm a fan of the NCS programme but I do think there needs to be more in place for those younger than 16 years and also for post NCS- will the people that engage in the programme keep volunteering? It worries me that there isn't a more structured strategy in place for other ages but I do hope it will instill a culture of community action for this generation...What are your fears Mohammed?

i agree Kate. studies have shown that 16 is too late to get into a culture of volunteering. its something parents and schools have to start early with, maybe age 8. if only there was some volunteering in schools programme which could be run - maybe called cschools, or tschools, or vschoo... no, don;t be ridiculous, it's a stupid idea.
